HOUSE2HOME

THE PROBLEM

B2C
Responsive Web App
Users need a way to easily decorate their small space with the look and feel they want while sticking to their budget.
They want a cohesive and professional look, that brings to life what they were imagining without feeling overwhelmed by all the choices.
USERS & AUDIENCES
Newly moved in users looking to decorate their new space with their own style and budget.
SCOPE & CONSTRAINTS
Research, persona, and users interviews were made available by Bitesize UX. Sprint lasted 5 days.

This project was a modified one-person Design Sprint.
As a solo UX designer:

MEET ALLY
She just moved into her very first apartment
She wants to decorate but is so overwhelmed and doesn't know where to start, but no worries! We can help:)

Day 1
END TO END EXPERIENCE

How might we help Ally?

HMW

-
How might we make users comfortable making a choice within their budget

-
How might we make it simple for users to choose a cohesive design look for their space

-
How might we show the user what the decorations would look like in their own space

Day 2
IDEATION

Lighting Demos
Inspirational Items
-
Side and top filters
-
Using a filter prior to entering site
-
Filter adjustment in real time

Using the Crazy 8s exercise I hashed out the main screen. This screen allows the user to the option of choosing individual items based on a theme or a whole pre-selected look they could simply purchase.

Screens that would come before and after the selected screen from the crazy 8s activity.

Day 3
DECIDE AND CREATE

Storyboard
Since users have a hard time deciding on cohesive look, by adding items to a “theme” the user will know these items will look good together. Giving them an option to see it all in one room as an example would be helpful.

Day 4
PROTOTYPING A SOLUTION
Main issue:
Users being overwhelmed by choices and having trouble finding a cohesive look.
SOLUTION
By users being able to select a theme and even selecting a whole look from the site, it would take the stress out of making those choices while still achieving that look and feel they were looking for from the start.
Day 5
TESTING

USER TESTING
5 participants
2 tasks
MAIN TAKE AWAYS
-
Most users were able to buy a "room kit".

-
Users did not like the prototype's preselected look, tried to shop around and eventually picked look available.

-
Add a customizable feature to selected look.
OUTCOMES & RESULTS
Adding customizable "Decorating kits" to House2Home's site would allow users who feel overwhelmed by choices to selected a cohesive look that fits their budget and style for their new place with ease.

Ally is happy with
her new decorations and
loves how easy it was to do!
Having photos of a decorated room with similar size as the user would help the user envision the items in their place.
